Discription
Ferozepur Road being congested due to fast growing Urban Development & Industrial Infra-Structure. Moreover it was selected as a priority corridor for MBS which has been completed and opened for public in February 2013. This corridor is initially 27 km from Gajju Matah to Shahdara. This corridor is partly at-grade and partly elevated. From Gajju Matah to Qaddafi Stadium it is at grade, from Qaddafi Stadium to Bhaati Chowk (8.5 km) it is elevated and from Bhaati Chowk to Shahdara it is again at grade. At grade Metro Bus is facing conflicts with eight junctions. Four junctions; Qainchi, Ghazi Road, Khaira and Azadi Chowk are more critical and congested which needs to be resolved in order to ease out the mixed traffic as well as Metro Bus flow. Government of the Punjab has planned to rehabilitate these junctions as signal free facilities. This PC-1 pertains to Signal free junctions at Qainchi, Ghazi Road, Khaira.
Rehabilitation of these junctions will alleviate traffic jams, ease out the Metro bus flow, noise & air pollution at junctions.
This project includes the grade separations in order to develop the signal free Junctions along Ferozpur road, at Qainchi, Ghazi Road, Khaira. In order to cater for vehicular turning traffic, two elevated U-Turns are being provided at a distance of about 450 m from Kamahan (MBS) station. Traffic coming from DHA/Sui Gas Society and going to Kalma Chowk will use this U-Turn. And adjacent U-Turn is being provided for the traffic coming from Gajju Mattah and going to Kamhan Lidher Road.
At Khaira junction an overhead steel bridge is being provided for motor cycles, bicycles and pedestrians. Khaira (Chungi) at grade junction is being closed.
Two elevated U-Turns are being provided at a distance of about 550 m from Chungi (MBS) Station. This U-Turn will facilitate the commuters coming from Gajju Mattah and going to DHA/Sui Gas Housing Societies. Traffic coming from Defence Road/Katcha Jail Road and going towards Gajju Mattah will also use this U-Turn. Other U-Turn will be for traffic coming from Ghazi Road and going to Ferozepur Road towards Kalma Chowk. This U-turn will also facilitate traffic towards General Hospital.
Qainchi (Walton Road) junction will be closed. At this junction traffic coming from Walton and going to Kalma Chowk will use a two lane flyover. Traffic coming from Gajju Mattah and going to Walton will use another two lane flyover with an exit ramp towards Gajju Mattah facilitating U-Turning Traffic. Since Ghazi Road junction is being closed so commuters coming from Gajju Mattah and going to Ghazi Road will travel about 500 m distance and use two lanes elevated U-Turn at Walton Road Junction. By providing these two flyovers and an elevated U-Turn at Walton Road Junction, this junction will be signal free for mixed traffic as well as for metro bus.

Project includes:
- A flyover on Qainchi for traffic coming from Walton road and willing to go towards Kalma chowk.
- A flyover on Qainchi for traffic coming from Kasur side and willing to go towards Walton road. An additional U-turn ramp will also be built with this flyover.
